Location

Our research lab is located in the Campus Florestal of the Federal University of Viçosa (UFV), in the municipality of Florestal, state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. Although we conduct field work throughout much of Brazil, our main study site is located within the UFV Campus. This is because the campus offers exciting opportunities for research, as it extends over 1500 hectares, half of it covered by semideciduous forests, and the other half covered by planted pastures, crops, gardens, and buildings.

Access

The Campus Florestal of the UFV is 65 km from the city of Belo Horizonte (the capital of the state of Minas Gerais)  and can be easily accessed by public transport. It is 100 km from the Confins International Airport.

Biodiversity

The UFV campus lies in the transition zone between the Atlantic Forest and the Cerrado savannas, two Hostpots of biodiversity. It harbors almost 300 bird species! See photographs of some of our birds in WikiAves.

Field Station

The Field Station is a four bedrooms house where students and other researchers can stay while conducting fieldwork at the UFV Campus.  Access to the entire study site is feasible by bike. The Field Station makes logistics in our study site very simple and cheap.
